Is easy beat compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 ("Tiger")?

Yes, the latest version 2.2.1 works fine with Tiger. Earlier versions of easy beat could crash on Mac OS X 10.4 ("Tiger"), but this has been fixed in the current version. Please upgrade to the current version.

When will a Universal Binary version of easy beat become available?

Sorry, but it is very unlikely that we will continue to develop easy beat. In particular, making easy beat Intel-ready would require a complete redesign, basically a redevelopment from scratch. Since this would be a major effort, we do not plan to take these steps at the time being. A Universal Binary version of easy beat seems to be rather unlikely in the foreseeable future. However, even though easy beat is no Universal Binary, running the PowerPC version on Intel Macs should cause no problems and be fast enough.

Is it possible to export an easy beat song to GarageBand?

If you have GarageBand 2 or newer, save your easy beat song as a MIDI file, then drag the MIDI file from the Finder into your GarageBand window.

For older versions of GarageBand, you can
use the "Save As" command to export all tracks of a song into a format suitable for import into GarageBand. To import the tracks into GarageBand, create a new song in GarageBand and drag the desired tracks from the Finder window into the empty area within the GarageBand window. Click here to watch a small movie (1.1 MB) and see the easy beat reference manual for details.

easy beat crashes immediately after launching it. How can I work around this problem?

This may be due to an incompatibility between easy beat and some user interface extensions (in particular Default Folder and Menu Master). The problem has been fixed in easy beat 2.2.1. Please upgrade to the current version of easy beat.

I am using easy beat 1.5 on Mac OS 9 and songs sound messy. What's wrong?

This is a known problem with the OS 9 version of easy beat and QuickTime 5 or newer. You may hear one or more of the following effects when you play a song with this configuration:

  • The timing of notes is irregular.
  • Drum notes are omitted.
  • Pitch bend controller changes happen too late.

These effects are caused by timing problems within QuickTime. The problem does no longer occur in easy beat 2.0 on Mac OS X.

I have another question. What should I do?

First check the easy beat Reference manual if it contains the information you're looking for.

Take a look at the "Tips and Tricks" and the "Troubleshooting" chapters.

If the manual doesn't help, send a mail message to our technical support.
