Most of your fonts contain thousands of characters, many more than you can access from the keyboard. If you want to get the most out of your fonts, then PopChar is the right tool for you.

PopChar makes "typing" of unusual characters easy without having to remember keyboard combinations.

Whenever you need a special character, PopChar is there to help. Click the "P" in the menu bar to display a table of characters. Select the desired character and it instantly appears in your document.

PopChar works with modern applications that support Unicode as well as with older applications that support only the smaller ASCII character set. In Unicode mode, PopChar makes it easy to navigate and search within fonts that contain thousands of special characters.

Web designers especially will enjoy the ability to insert HTML symbols.

PopChar 4 introduces a new "All" view that lets you work across font boundaries.

Imagine you need the cubic meters symbol in a text written in Helvetica. Searching for "cub" does not yield any results, as the Helvetica font does not contain such a symbol. Until now, you would need to click through hundreds of fonts until you find one that contains the desired symbol.

With PopChar 4, just switch to the new "All" view to see the entire repertoire of Unicode characters. The search for "cub" now produces the cube root as well as some metric units cubed, including the symbol for cubic meters. Click the symbol, and PopChar inserts it into your document.

Languages

PopChar X is multilingual (English, German, and French).

Installation To install PopChar X, download it from our downloads page. PopChar X is distributed as a Mac OS X disk image (DMG). Once you have mounted the disk image, simply drag the PopChar application icon to your Applications folder and double-click the copy of PopChar you have just created. No restart required; you can immediately start using PopChar. As long as you do not have a license key, PopChar operates in trial mode: some special characters are dimmed in the PopChar table. You can order a license key online on our order page. When you receive your license key, enter it in the Registration window of PopChar X. The dimmed characters will immediately become active.

Requirements for PopChar X 4.x

PopChar X 4.x runs on Mac OS X 10.4 and newer. Mac OS X 10.5 is recommended. If you need to run PopChar X on Mac OS X 10.3.9, please use PopChar X 3.4. Universal Binary - runs on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs.
